“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place. Mt 5
Torah is the way.
In this morning's Gospel Jesus proclaims that he has come to fulfill the law
and the prophets- all that Torah promised. Indeed in all of his mighty deeds of
healing and compassion; in his announcement of the in-breaking of God's kingdom;
in his passion, death and resurrection this fulfillment is made manifest. Jesus embodies
Torah, for as he tells us in John's Gospel, he himself is the "way,
the truth and the life."
